My name is Jenny Dutson, Associate Director and Head of Design at Phillip Stoner the Jeweller; I have been designing jewellery for over 15 years. I’m passionate about jewellery design and making unique pieces of jewellery that are perfectly suited to each customer’s individual style.

Working for Phillip Stoners is a dream come true for a designer as we have the most cutting edge design tools available as well as our in-house workshop that transform my designs into reality with me being a part of it every step of the way.

Often people expect our design service to be costly, however it is only a £50 charge for the design process which is then reimbursed if the design is proceeded. Because we use our in-house workshop we can keep the making costs extremely competitive and to an extremely high standard, as after all it is what we have been doing since 1982!

Before I make any bespoke piece of jewellery I begin the design process with a consultation with the customer. This is a relaxed meeting where I can talk with the customer about any ideas they may already have and discuss suggestions that will bring the design to life.

Once I feel I have a good idea of what the customer is looking for I produce my designs using the latest CAD software to create a virtual 3D model of the design. This creates a photographic quality image for the customer to view; these images are so incredibly life like they give the customer a definite idea of how the finished piece will look before they decide to commit to it.

At this stage the design can be amended if warranted which provides a comfort to the customer that is often needed when creating something so unique. Working so closely with the customer is imperative to the process and the aftercare we can offer is important to our clients.

Depending on the design, the item will then either be cast from the original CAD model or made by hand in our in-house workshop. Whichever route it takes, each piece of jewellery is expertly set and finished by our own master jewellers, making sure that each piece reaches the very high standards of quality that Phillip Stoner the Jeweller is renowned for.

For me personally, it is wonderful to be able to present the finished item to the customer – the end result of all the hard work that goes into each bespoke piece. To see the delight on somebody’s face when they finally get to wear the piece of jewellery that has been specially designed for them – that’s my very favourite part of the design process!

The event aims to raise funds and awareness for abused and vulnerable children and this year saw guest speaker Jenni Murray (of Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and Newsnight) give an extremely entertaining and inspirational speech for this worthy event. 

For the main prize we donated a 0.50ct D colour diamond set into an 18ct white gold pendant which was part of our exclusive Lila collection. We felt a piece from our Lila range was most appropriate as the collection was inspired by the love for a child.

The winner of the diamond pendant this year was Danielle Hurst(Pictured left) from Leeds, who was absolutely thrilled to have won. It was also lovely to meet last year’s winner again who was still wearing her pendant and came over to tell us how much she loved it.

Finally to honour the contributions made by Phillip Stoner the Jeweller for the last 10 years, Jonathan Stoner was presented with a special award for Outstanding Contribution to the NSPCC, (Pictured first with Gill Warwick the Community Fundraising Manager of Leeds and York area) it was a wonderful surprise and made us all very proud!

The theme is the Mad Hatters Tea Party where all the VQ stores are inviting their own privileged customers for a night of events, prizes and most importantly special offers.

Hollyoaks actress Stephanie Waring who plays Cindy Cunningham visited our Manchester store yesterday and picked out some stunning diamond jewellery with the help of our Associate Director David Reynolds. She will be wearing these fabulous jewels for the annual Soap awards that are taking place this weekend.
